Climbing Gym Market Size Calculator
Enter a U.S. address and a travel radius to see who lives there: population by age and households by income, straight from the Census Bureau. Then pick a monthly membership price to estimate how many active climbing-gym memberships the area could support. For the reasoning behind the model, see Sizing the Gym: Market Selection & Analysis.
Methodology & Limits
- The radius is a straight line from the address, not drive time.
- Census block groups partly inside the radius are apportioned by their area inside it, which assumes people are spread evenly within each block group. Coastal block groups can be under-counted.
- Block-group boundaries are simplified to about 10 m for the overlap calculation.
- Population, age, and income are American Community Survey 5-year (2020–2024) estimates. The ± figures are the Census Bureau's 90% margins of error, combined across block groups.
- The median household income is interpolated from income brackets.
- The membership model applies national climbing participation rates to each age band, counting only households for whom the price is at most 3% of income.
- Competing gyms are not modeled; the estimate is for the whole area.
